Config Notes
| The wireless network device was not tested due to no Broadcom wireless drivers being available for Linux. ATI Radeon X1250 driver version 8.37.6 was installed and used according to instructions available at Novell (Open SuSE) http://en.opensuse.org/Howto/ATI_Driver. The driver can be obtained by visiting: http://ati.amd.com/support/drivers/linux/linux-radeon.html. The Activate 3D Acceleration box was greyed out but checked. Enable Desktop Effects button was not shown in Look and Feel section because 3D Acceleration was showing Disabled. Found instructions at http://en.opensuse.org/Using_Xgl_on_SUSE_Linux to set 3D Acceleration to Enabled by holding shift key and double clicking on Disabled next to 3D Acceleration. Click Enable Desktop Effects button then restart the Xserver system.
Desktop effects were enabled manually by running the command "gnome-xgl-switch --enable-xgl", see http://en.opensuse.org/Using_Xgl_on_SUSE_Linux for more details. Remote monitor: FN+F4 does not function properly. Stopping and restarting Xserver is necessary to display remote monitor. i.e. run command init 3 from terminal, then when remote monitor appears, run command init 5. Suspend to disk hotkey not supported; 'powersave -U' does work on the command line. The command 'powersave -u' does suspend to RAM after setting /etc/powersave/sleep: SUSPEND2RAM_FORCE:"yes." Power management does not entirely function when desktop effects are enabled; the system tray icons for suspend to disk (hibernate) and suspend to RAM (sleep) disappear when desktop effects are enabled. |
