ABSTRACT:
A frequently asked support issue is the customer report that an OCX will not register.
Typically, this is because another DLL is missing or not registered on the machine. Unluckily though, there may be a set of nested dependencies, and the error does not include the name of the file that was missing.
If you have checked the dependency information in the OCX.txt file and still cannot register the control, you could try using existing tools to identify and list the dependencies. Article Q178489 in Microsoft's Knowledgebase list a few of such tools.
The most efficient tool is the "Dependancy Walker" (Depends.exe) - it comes with several Microsoft compilers and other packages ("Windows Resource Kit", "Windows Platform SDK", "MS Visual Studio", etc) so you might already a copy on your local disk. If you don't, download it from http://www.microsoft.com/MSJ/code/depends.htm. Depends.exe identifies the missing DLL with a red circle, making it easy to determine the cause of the trouble.
