TID101943 (TVDB3) - NetWare Debugging Tool - New Core-dump Facility for NW4.11-

From Developer Community

Novell engineering has released a new NetWare "coredump" facility which compresses coredumps at dump time for NetWare v4.11+. Attached are new versions of the following:

DIAG411.NLM v1.30 VDB4W.EXE v4.50

DIAG500.NLM v1.10 VDB5.EXE v1.10

Because of the additional overhead imposed, compression is optional. When starting a manual coredump, you will be asked whether or not you want the image compressed. If the autodump feature is enabled, the image will be compressed by default. However, this can be explicitly controlled by specifying -COMPRESS or -NOCOMPRESS on the command line when loading DIAGxxx.NLM.

At this point, the new VDB's can read the compressed images directly without modification (no need to uncompress them first). Testing thus far seems to indicate that the overhead of automatically uncompressing the image on the fly as needed results in little if any noticeable performance loss.

The new DIAGxxx.NLM's are being submitted for inclusion with SPK1 for NW5, and SPK6 for NW4.11/4.2/4.2SB, so should be in the hands of Novells end-customers soon.

Support for these applications is limited. Please send comments to devsup@novell.com, placing "SUGGESTION TVDB3" in the e-mail subject line.
