TARGET OS: NetWare 5.0
VTUNE is a tool originally developed by Intel to do processor based profiling. It allows you to track things like where the processor is spending its time, where the misaligned memory references are, or where the branch mis-predictions are happening. VTune is a utility that runs under WIN95 and NT. Novell has developed a VTUNE NLM that can generate trace files for VTUNE to display. This NLM runs on both NetWare 4.11 and NetWare 5.0. To generate a trace file, simply load the VTUNE NLM, select the event to be profiled, select the target file path - you can change the path but not the name, and then add the description for the trace file you want to see from VTUNE. After generating a trace file, copy it where the VTUNE client utility running on WIN95 or NT can access it. Select View, then select sessions, then select file, and last select import csips.tbs file and import your trace file. This will allow you to see a nice graphical display of the trace data. Note that the VTUNE NLM requires a pentium pro system. You can obtain a 14 day trial version of the VTUNE 3.0 client software from Intel at:
