[edit] General[edit] What is the OMC project? The OMC project is a community created to help implement the initiatives defined by the DMTF: Profiles that define management of Systems, Storage, Operating Systems, Applications, etc, in a common open-standards way. While current projects focus on implementing the SMASH profiles, and supporting tools and utilities, this should not preclude participants from proposing additional projects that fit the OMC Mission and Charter [edit] Who should participate in the OMC project? If you have an interest in standards-based management via CIM, then OMC is for you. See the Participate in OMC page. [edit] Who will use OMC? Who is the target audience? There are multiple target audiences who would use OMC deliverables:
[edit] Do participants need to register? No registration is required for software, source code downloads or participation in mailing lists. However, registration is required to submit bug reports, enhancement requests, or to commit patches and code changes. For details on how to participate, see the Participate in OMC page. [edit] How is the OMC project organized and managed?See the How the Project Works page. [edit] What is the OMC project Release Schedule?OMC consists of several sub-projects. Each sub-project will determine its own timeline, schedule, roadmap, deliverables, etc. [edit] What is the OMC Roadmap?OMC consists of several sub-projects. [edit] Relationship to Novell[edit] What is the relationship of the OMC project to Novell? All successful open source communities start with a strong vision and the support and leadership of a small, dedicated group. Up to now, OMC has been supported by Novell personnel. The OMC project started with Novell engineers working to implement the DMTF's SMASH profiles. The OMC project is currently sponsored and hosted by Novell, which contributes significant engineering, management and infrastructure resources, including hosting the forge site, svn repository, and bugzilla database. That being said, we hope that this will become a true community effort, with IHVs and ISVs contributing their expertise to complete DMTF profiles and provide tools and applications that use them. Your participation is encouraged. |
