No updates for a long time don't mean MailSaver is dead! MailSaver 4.0 Beta 3 is the latest version, available from my blog. The reason it hasn't been updated forever is that there haven't been any showstopper bugs for it, and there hasn't been much need to make any changes to it. It works in 6.5 and 7, but if you are using 7, it requires SP2 on the client.
Features Added:
Please test and provide feedback here or on my blog's comments at http://cranky.ca.
This version of MailSaver supports the following new features:
Before the 4.0 final release, the following features are planned to be supported as well:
There have also been a number of bugs fixed. Thanks to all the people around the globe who have given feedback. In particular, thanks to Ian Wright, John Hughes, Maurizio Marcovati, Andrew Edwards, Bruno Zeitoun, Ranier Mohr, Jim Harris, Mike Ossing, James Miou, Ryan Sinnwell, Matthew Bretag, Bruce Weaver, Mike Johnson, Flemming Christensen, John Bilecky, Mark Willson, David Fixemer, Vicki Smith and Bob Norman.
The next version of MailSaver is in the works. Some new features planned are as follows:
-Make it work in proxy accounts -Make it work with search folders -Make it remember if it has already saved a message so it doesn't make redundant copies -Make it remember where each cabinet folder was saved to, allowing quick synchronization from cabinet folders to disk folders -Make it work in non-english versions of GroupWise (by popular request)
The non-english GroupWise interoperability is the most popular feedback item from the user community, followed by making it work in Proxy, so I'll be putting some effort into those features.
Also, the current source code is available in CVS now, so if you want to build an interim build before we get to the next version (tentatively named 4.0) and you have VB6 you can make your own MailSaver 3.9 betas.
I've gotten several emails from people who downloaded MailSaver today after it was featured in Novell's cool solutions. There've been some good feature suggestions, and I'll be adding those to the next-version feature todo list.
Welcome to the first public release of MailSaver. MailSaver is not totally new, because it has existed in various forms since about 1998, however this is the first version that will leave the confines of Associated Engineering. Enjoy it, and I hope it fills a need for somebody else out there, whether it be to help you archive your mail, or just to help you understand the GroupWise Object API and C3PO API.
Have fun,
Mr. Cranky
