The Magellan project is a Novell effort to create a next-generation collaborative enterprise application development tool suite for Linux.
What all of that means is the following:
- Next-Generation - a tool suite that builds upon today's development tools to provide a higher-level application development tool that sets a new standard
- Collaborative - a tool suite that simplifies the process of team application development, whether on open- or closed-source applications
- Enterprise Application Development - a tool suite that simplifies the process of developing enterprise applications by application developers with enterprise considerations, like targeted builds, package distribution, heightened security, remote management, and legacy integration
- Tool suite - a collection of traditional and newly developed, server-side and client-side, typical and atypical capabilities provided together in a single, logical solution
- for Linux - a tool suite that makes Linux the application developer's platform of choice based upon ease of use as well as platform superiority
This is not a small undertaking. But it will be cool once it is completed!
Magellan is based upon Eclipse.
