configuration and data for programs

I would like information about where my data is stored and where each program stores its configuration. Here is an example of the sort of data I mean:

This would help people to upgrade and backup their data

Describe stable mount points

Sometimes a fixed mount point is essential, e.g. scripts that access or mount a device automatically to perform some action.

I don't think we have something similar in our offical guides. Therfore a lesson to identify a device that stays the same regardless of boot time or additional devices can be really helpful for users. Further to establish a constant device name helps to create stable mount points in /etc/fstab. Idea from lists.opensuse.org.
