Novell Linux Desktop SDK

Novell Linux Desktop (NLD) SDK is a comprehensive development tool kit that is based on and requires NLD. It's designed to support developers, as well as Independent Hardware Vendors (IHVs) and Independent Software Vendors (ISVs), in creating applications on or porting applications to NLD enterprise products.

NLD's multi-platform capabilities ensure that nearly all tools are available on Linux platforms. It features several integrated development environments (IDEs), support for programming languages (including C, C++, Java, Perl, Python, and PHP), as well as additional development tools like debuggers and graphic design programs.

The SDK also contains most of the tools that were used to produce SUSE Linux Enterprise Server.

Introduction to Mono - Your First Mono App

By Brian Delahunty

I am fairly familiar with Linux and developed basic applications for Linux using C, C++, and Java while in college. However, many weblog postings from bemused Windows developers who had attempted to get Mono up and running on Linux had me slightly worried. Much to my surprise, it was actually a painless experience and getting Mono running on Linux was easy. Setting it up and running it on Windows was even easier.

Linux Developer's Corner - Mono Live!

I know there are some of you out there who would like to try out Mono, but don't want or have the resources to set up a machine to do it. Well, I have the answer for you now. Mono Live is a CD that allows you to boot into a system that contains the most up-to-date version of Mono, the required dependencies, and many of the latest desktop applications and tools--without having to make changes to your existing system. For more information and details on how to obtain the live CD, click here.

Book Review

Mono: A Developer's Notebook

At first glance you might overlook Mono: A Developer's Notebook if you spied it among the rows and rows of programming books at your local book store. It's not very big, less than 300 pages, and doesn't really go in for the flash factor that many technical publications seem to be based on. The spine is a simple black color with white lettering, there are no graphics or pictures of the authors, and the front and back covers are simply done, with enough information to convey the contents.
