This project is an enhancement to the OSF DCE PRC 1.1 code to port it to Linux and to modify it to more completely match the related open specification (http://www.opengroup.org/tech/rfc/mirror-rfc/rfc2.1.txt).

Changes to the original OSF DCE RPC 1.1 code include:

1. Portability changes for running the code on Linux on i386, x86-64, s390, and powerpc. This included a new threading library.

2. Better input validation to avoid potential denial of service attacks. An example of this is the [range] extension to the IDL compiler, which allows deserialized integers to be restricted to a range of values.

3. Support for arithmetic operations in size qualifiers to support Unicode. This is necessary so the underlying DCE RPC runtime knows to double the value of a string length (in characters) to determine the Unicode length in bytes.

4. Support for MIDL compatible serialization of data

5. Support for RPC clients that use domain sockets or named pipes instead of TCP/IP.

6. Fixed existing support for 3-way authentication.

7. Introspection APIs and interoperability with Windows session keys (see inter alias "Musings on Software Engineering", http://us1.samba.org/samba/ftp/slides/tridge-softeng.pdf pp24-25)

8. Many general bugfixes aimed at improving reliability

This code also merged some of the changes from FreeDCE, a fork of the OSF DCE RPC code. FreeDCE remains a project on Sourceforge but it has been GPL'ed. Only FreeDCE source code released under the original OSF license was used.
