If you are new to Linux, you may not be aware of the range of development tools available for you on the Linux platform. There are many great development tools available at no cost: IDEs, debuggers, profilers, compilers, etc. In addition, there are many languages available for Linux, from C and C++ to Java to scripting languages like Perl, Python, PHP, and Ruby. There is also a wide variety of supporting libraries to help you accomplish just about anything in most of the popular languages.
