Linux is an open source operating system similar to Unix. For most purists, the actual name of the operating system is GNU/Linux: Linux being the name of the operating system kernel, with many of the software components that make the kernel usable maintained by GNU. However, in the mainstream today, most people refer to it simply as Linux.

SUSE Linux is the brand name for Novell's Linux distribution.
