Appomattox is a project to further GIS technology on the desktop. At its core, it is a library of easy to use, cross-platform mapping components which developers can use to integrate mapping/GIS functionality into their .NET/Mono applications.
The Appomattox project also includes WorkBench. WorkBench is a desktop mapping/GIS application for end users and also a prototype of the mapping components. It runs well on both Windows and Linux, but targets the GNOME platform.
