Novell eDirectory™ is the most widely used identity foundation for managing internal and Web-based relationships between user identities, corporate assets, and security policies. This hands-on course will introduce you the basic concepts of eDirectory, teaching you to develop scalable and secured LDAP applications based on user identity.

Through this course, you will gain technical knowledge on basic to advanced LDAP programming skills using the Novell Java LDAP SDK and JNDI interface from Java SDK. You will also gain the skills to:

  • Apply best practices on schema design for performance and scalability
  • Extend schema, importing and exporting LDIF files using the eDirectory tools, including ConsoleOne and iManager
  • Debug LDAP applications using DSTRACE and iMonitor
  • Perform LDAP operations using the tools available in Novell LDAP SDK

  • A basic knowledge of Java programming is required.

  • Install eDirectory, ConsoleOne and iManager
  • ConsoleOne and iManager walkthrough
  • Directory Schema Design and LDIF file format
  • Using Schema Manager
  • Extending schema using ICE and importing data from LDIF file
  • Understanding LDAP
  • Using LDAP SDK tools (ldapsearch, ldapmodify, ldapadd, ldapdelete and ldapmodrdn)
  • LDAP SDKs Overview (JLDAP, JNDI and LDAP Beans)
  • Hands-on Development Lab (LDAP Search, Add, Delete and Modify)

Day Two:

  • Understanding Novell Certificate Server
  • Novell Certificate Server Walkthrough
  • Building secure LDAP application Lab
  • Advanced LDAP concepts (Dynamic Groups, Persistent Search and Extensible Match)
  • Hands-on Development Lab (Dynamic Groups and Persistent Search)
  • Novell ODBC and JDBC Drivers for eDirectory
  • Creating Reports Using ODBC and JDBC Drivers Hands-on Lab
