  Introduction
introduction

Web-based Distributed Authoring and Versioning (WebDAV) is the emerging standard in web-based collaboration. WebDAV allows content creators to use remote content management servers as easily as if they were local file servers. SilverStream's eXtend Director (formerly known as ePortal) has supported the WebDAV standard within its Content Management subsystem since release 2.0. SilverStream strongly supports this emerging standard and continues to solidify it's compliance with each new release.

In order to provide the most complete support for both the WebDAV Specification and the diverse WebDAV clients available, SilverStream has provided a public WebDAV test server which can be accessed via the following URL: http://webdav.silverstream.com/Director/WebDAVService/main. The WebDAV server is password protected so, when challenged, please use the User ID "devcenter" with a password of "rocks".

We are making this server available to the public in order to provide WebDAV client developers with an opportunity to test against SilverStream's WebDAV server implementation. We believe that this will allow us to improve our server implementation while also allowing clients to improve their interoperability with SilverStream Director's Content Management subsystem.

We encourage users to test WebDAV transactions to and from our public server using an HTTP trace tool. If questions or problems do occur, we will need the HTTP trace in order to resolve the issue. Please email WebDAVDude if anything comes up during your testing. Please be sure to include a description of the issue and the HTTP trace as well. This will help us identify exactly what was going on at the time.

Given that this is a public site, please be aware that SilverStream cannot be responsible for the content uploaded by anonymous users. We will try our best to keep everything G-rated and keep file sizes reasonable. Also, if you would like more information about WebDAV, please visit WebDAV.org.

We are looking forward to getting your feedback as you test against our WebDAV server. Have fun.
