DirXML Engine Installation

To install the DirXML engine, complete the following steps. (This is the DirXML Service that will run on the NT Server.)

  1. Insert the DirXML CD into your workstation. Navigate to the X:\NT directory, where X is the drive letter of your CDROM.

  2. Run Install.exe (Figure 4).

  1. Click Accept > (Figure 5)

The following screen (Figure 6) is where you choose a driver to install. You will notice that the NT4 Domain Driver is not in the list because we are only installing the DirXML engine at this point. Choose the "NDS eDirectory to eDirectory Driver."

  1. Click Finish. The install program will copy the required files and it will also spawn the DSTRACE utility.

You will notice some activity go by. You will also notice that the install program appears to stop and do nothing. Be patient. Depending on the speed of your system it may take a couple of minutes to complete.

Once completed, you will get the Installation Complete dialog. Install will then execute ConsoleOne.

  1. Click Close on the Installation Complete dialog box. ConsoleOne will ask if you wish to run the Application Driver Configuration Wizard or the Filtered Replication Wizard.

  2. Click Cancel. We will not be running either of these wizards.

  3. At this point we need to restart the NT Server.

  4. Once you have successfully restarted the server, login, as admin, to the tree that you have just created. Look in the Control Panel - NDS Services and you should see a service called dirxml.dlm and the status will be blank (Figure 8). Do not be alarmed. We have a few more steps before the DirXML service will start. Mainly we need to create the Driver Set Object and install the driver. Once they have been setup, the DirXML Service will start. Do not worry startup is Manual. It will start every time you boot the server. Close the NDS Services dialog box.

Checking DirXML Integration Module Status.

  1. We need to make a registry change before we proceed. Run REGEDT32 from the RUN command line (Figure 9) and find the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE dialog box. Single-click on it to bring it to the foreground so we can alter it.

Windows NT Registry Editor.

Figure 9: Windows NT Registry Editor.

  1. With the HLM dialog as the active screen, choose the Security menu and then choose Permissions (Figure 10).You will get the following screen.

  2. Check the Replace Permission on Existing Subkeys box and then make sure that Administrators is highlighted.

  3. Click OK and then Yes. This preps the Administrator user for access to the Domain so DirXML can add users.

  1. Start ConsoleOne (Figure 11). You should have ConsoleOne version 1.2d.1 or greater. Below is a screen shot of my ConsoleOne application. I have expanded all of the OU's so that you can see the structure of my tree so the answers to the NT4 Domain Driver install will make sense. You can create your own tree structure I have included mine for demonstration purposes only.
